Event Horizon

24th June 2023 - Nottingham - Motorpoint Arena

Game themes: Sci-Fi / Horror

Gameplay: Negotiation / Investigation / Teams /
Traitors / Survival

The hyper-advanced spaceship Event Horizon re-appeared, and a UN-led research and salvage fleet were deployed to learn its secrets.

The research and salvage fleet had 7 teams of 5 - 8 players, taking on the roles from commanders and engineers, to scientists and security staff - but all of them will with useful skills for the trials that lay ahead aboard the ill-omened ship.

Teams represented the UN, a megacorporation, and assorted future Earth states including the USA, Russia, China, and the African Union, all with their own objectives and approaches.

At first several of the teams seemed to work together, but increasingly things fell apart as some ships refused to acknowledge UN oversight, spaceships were boarded and ransacked for valuable data, and weird goings-on aboard the Event Horizon caused mass confusion and injuries. Paranoia gripped many of the crew and threats were issued, members of the fleet attacked each other, and somehow a small nuclear detonation occurred next to the engine!

Whatever happened next, there weren’t enough operational ships for everyone to get back to Earth, and there were reports of a strange mechanical being that had the face of one of the Chinese crew, briefly communing with the ship before everything started exploding…

It was a brilliant day of chaos, confusion, and supernatural weirdness - IN SPAAACE!

Player testimony from Event Horizon:

“The game is very good… The design and the production quality is fantastic.”

“Really fun sci-fi horror themes. All strategy went to hell really quickly throwing us into delightful chaos!”

“All facilitators were fantastic at explaining the rules… Just a brilliant high-energy mess of information gathering, negotiation, and team-work. Loved it to bits. All the maps were very intuitive and easy to understand. Everyone got so into it - the dread, the politics, the weirdness - very thematic.”

“First game so I had a lot of fun just being involved. I love the genre so that was good. Excellent facilitators and the RP from the UN was great.”
