Last People on Earth

2nd September 2023 - Nottingham - Motorpoint Arena

Game themes: Historical / Ancient Celts (and Roman influence)

Gameplay: Negotiation / Teams / Conflict / Trading / Semi-Mystical

The focus of this megagame is mainly about player's relationships with other players in their tribe and other tribes in Celtic Britain.

During the game you will be trading, crafting treasures, trying to impress new followers, competing for status, chariot racing, raiding, fighting wars, and performing ancient and mysterious druidic rituals - as well as having tribal leaders discussing the major events of the day in the all-important Tuath Council.

In the end it will be about keeping your tribe healthy and prestigious and resolving conflicts… one way or another!

On the day of the megagame, we saw tribes divide along pro-and anti-Roman lines, with an initial period of peace blowing up into a crisis as a member of a pro-Roman Celtic tribe attempted to build a shiny new villa - only to be abducted and severely punished at the encouragement of the High Druids, who were keen to see their own position of power unchallenged by some Italians wearing bedsheets.

What started as a disagreement over a planning application soon escalated, and the whole of Britannia was engulfed in violence as tribe raised warband against tribe… apart from the Iceni, who stayed out of the whole thing and instead built their own mini-empire through the Midlands.

A Roman legion landed on the south coast as all-out strife gripped the land, with High Druids being usurped or fleeing for their own safety, and by the end of the day it seemed as though there was something of a crisis in Britannia… but that’s a game for another time!

Player testimony from this run of Last People on Earth:

“The fact that all of the tribes narratives intertwined around the consequence of what was effectively a single decision made by a single player. It was brilliantly adjudicated and could easily have swung into even deeper anarchy. Well done Control!”

“All of it was fantastic, the components were really good quality and the mechanics made sure it ran well.”

“I enjoyed the interaction and scheming between the individual groups. I also enjoyed the co-operative nature of our group as we worked on the resource management aspect of the game.”

“I enjoyed reading the runes, they were fun!”
