Game themes: Victorian London / Supernatural
Gameplay: Faction management / Conspiracy / Political / Gang conflict / Shifting teams and potential treachery / Occult oddities
The Prussian ambassador’s accused the French embassy of spying on him, the Fenians have blown up a police station, a gang boss has gone on record that a ‘man-wolf beast’ ripped apart his crew in the middle of robbing a bank, and it’s just started raining frogs over Westminster Abbey. What is going on?
In a game world that takes elements of real later Victorian history, popular culture, and tales of myth, you will be part of a faction with multiple goals and shifting alliances - there’s money to be made, power to be seized, and diplomacy to be carefully crafted - so if you enjoy Victoriana, gothic tales, Sherlock Holmes, and maybe a dash of Peaky Blinders, then this is a game for you!
Players will be on teams representing factions such as political dissidents, respected academics, and misunderstood myths come to life, that are also part of the Criminal, Establishment, or Supernatural worlds. Player objectives may include completing otherworldly rituals, acquiring boatloads of cash, or taking gang territory across Victorian London - and then there's all those interesting artefacts and locations like the British Museum, Millbank Panopticon, and plenty of treasures looted by an explorer or two...
Most teams will be of 2 people, with some opportunities for larger teams of up to 5 - but several teams will be working with each other, so if you can't be on the same team as someone don't worry. There are also some press (public speaking) roles and there may be a solo opportunity.
Further information will be sent out before the game, but expect a day of negotiation, plotting, and a social afterwards to find out who did what over a tea/pint/food!
This event is taking place in a wheelchair accessible venue. Lunch is not included, but there are some options for food nearby; many people bring packed lunches. You can find out more about East Midlands Megagames on our website and Facebook group.

Player testimony from the 2024 run of The Game’s Afoot:
“I especially liked that we all had developed characters with clear specific objectives - that made a huge difference for me. I liked the combination of historical and fictional characters, but that every single person was a character.”
“I loved feeling like I was unravelling a mystery, and the roles and factions were thematic.”
“Great production for cards and maps, great subplots… On a personal note, really enjoyed trying to hunt down the supernatural and then 'shoot it or recruit it'.”
“Just very fun in general!”
